Hodag Music Festival

RHINELANDER, Wis. – Despite the fact there’s still snow on the ground, planning for the annual return to Hodag Country Music Festival is already underway.

Hodag 2014, set for July 10 through 13, is going to be an experience that’s not to be missed – it always is. Even the newbies who went last year are hooked. Welcoming them to the festival was a no-brainer, between the vocals and guitar-picking they shared around the bonfire. Heck, one of them was even strumming country tunes from the top of a camper, entertaining nearby camp sites hours after the headline acts ended for the night.

The Hodag family spans across two state lines and catching up with the Wisconsin side is always much looked forward to. In fact, catching up is one of the ways to pass the time as people wait to set out lawn chairs in the seating area. This year, chair lines to enter the arena open at 5 p.m. July 9. Festival staff post several starting points for the chair line. At 6 p.m., security determines the end of each and closes it off.

The reactions on the faces of new comers is always a treat to see. Between fans’ costumes and creatively crafted campsites, the sights are bizarre, yet, not all that surprising.

If you haven’t given the annual outdoor country music festival a try, do so. You meet new friends, listen to some of country music’s heaviest hitters and get to cheer them on with as many as 40,000 plus other fans. Along with a new line-up of performers this year, Neal McCoy is once again making his return.

So mark your calendars and pack up your camping gear, Hodag 2014 is just around the corner. Tickets go up for sale after May 31, 2014.
