Houghton baseball denied in Escanaba
ESCANABA – The Houghton baseball team dropped both its games Saturday at the Escanaba Invitational. The Gremlins fell 7-2 to the host Eskymos and 11-1 to Alpena.
Five unearned runs proved Houghton’s undoing against Esky, despite a complete game from Trent Keteri. The senior allowed nine hits, walked one and struck out three.
Catcher Brad Juntunen had a big day at the plate in defeat, going 3-for-4 and stealing three bases. Brad Ward and Connor Hannon had two hits each.
In the second game, starter Cole Jepsen left with elbow pain after two innings and the Gremlin relievers struggled with the Wildcat offense.
Jonathan Bostwick had a pair of hits and Juntunen drove in the lone Houghton run with an RBI double. Both players were named to the all-tournament team.
