77 runs scored in slowpitch slugfest
HOUGHTON – Post 90/Lakes Lounge and Bucko’s/Labatt’s combined for 77 runs in a wild Copper Country men’s slowpitch league encounter in Laurium.
Post 90/Lakes Lounge recovered from allowing 12 in the first inning to grab the 41-36 victory.
Jason Wilks went 7-for-8 with a triple and two doubles in the winning effort. Joe Rivest hit for the cycle and reached base in all seven plate appearances (a homer, a triple, a double, three singles and a walk).
Ryan Gerbig and Jason Sedar also had four-hit games, while Kevin LaRoux had three and one of his team’s three homers.
Brad Anderson had two triples in his six hits for Labatt’s/Bucko’s. Joel Vertin homered twice en route to a five-hit game. Jack Benson, George VanDenburg and Kevin Tormala also posted five hits, Matt King, Dave Frantti and Aron Butkovich four.
It was a long night for Bucko’s/Labatt’s, which defeated Osmose 33-11 in their first game of the night.
Charlie Kemppainen went 5-for-5 in that game, while Anderson was a triple short of the cycle. Both Anderson and Tormala had four hits and three others had three.
Erickson Crowley Peterson held off Nutini’s 15-11. Buddy Londo led the way, ending up 4-for-5 and a double short of the cycle. Matt Turunen added three hits for the winners.
Coca Cola/Miller’s Recreation defeated Pat’s Foods/ThermoAnalytics 18-10.
Three Pat’s/ Thermoanalytics players had three-hit games including Ben Steber and Ross DuMonthier. Steber, Jim Larsen and Austin Riipi homered.
