VFW Minors stop Kissel

HOUGHTON – Kade Farrell went 3-for-3, Saar Bar-Ziv was 2-for-2 and Donovan Dueweke had a bases-clearing triple, propelling South Range VFW past Kissel Chevrolet 15-9 in Portage Lake Little League Minor (age 9-10) baseball.

Brok Holombo struck out four in three shutout innings for the winners.

For Kissel, Eric Salo drove in three runs and reached in all four plate appearances.

Superior Service rallied with five runs in the bottom of the fourth on the way to a 7-4 win over Thrivent Financial.

Emmett Larson was the winning pitcher and drove in three runs.

For Thrivent, Gaborik Carlson went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Eric Anderson had a two-run inside-the-park homer in the fourth.

The Portage Health Green Sox stopped Auto Pro Glass and Tire 8-6 behind three hits and a winning pitching effort from Dylan Horning. Matt Rowe and Tucker Ryynanen had two apiece.

For Auto Pro, Chad Nordstrom had a triple and a single.

Tervo Insurance defeated Houghton Rotary 11-4. Dean Jurmu threw three innings of one-hit ball for the winners. Nolan Sturos and Dylan Primeau had two hits each.

For Rotary, Quinn Donnelly and Camden Markham shared pitching duties, each striking out six. Donnelly also doubled.
