Walk-off for Larson, solid first outing for Eakin
HOUGHTON?- Eli Larson’s walk-off single decided an interleague Major baseball game as Matt’s Auto Glass (Portage Lake) edged Copper World (Keweenaw) 6-5.
In the sixth, Sacha Frose doubled in Ryan Moilanen to tie the game. A move to third put Frose in position to score the winning run on Larson’s infield hit.
J. Peltier Construction downed 41 Lumber 15-3 in an interleague game behind four shutout innings from Harley Eakin in his first career outing.
Jackson Rocchi went 3-for-3 with a triple and two inside-the-park home runs. Taylor Gardner had three triples, Davin Hill had a pair of hits and Isaiah Little had a first-inning solo shot.
Justin Trevarrow had a pair of hits and pitched five innings for 41 Lumber.
The Loading Zone II rolled 16-3 over the Portage Health Major Green Sox. Carter Crouch homered twice and drove in six runs in a 5-for-5 game. Cole Gregorie had a double, a triple and drove in five runs. Caleb Gregorie had a double, a triple and went 4-for-5.
Cole Gregorie was the winning pitch, allowing seven hits in a complete game.
For Portage Health, Ashton Janke went 3-for-4.
In 16-U softball, McDonalds (Portage Lake) defeated a team from Keweenaw 15-12. Milly Hoskins struck out nine for the winners. Aubrey Zackal had two hits and scored three times.
For the visitors, Kendra Keranen had a double and two RBIs and Kayleigh King had a multi-hit game.
In Major softball, Superior Service outscored Douglass Agency 27-13. Payton Dube went 5-for-5 at the plate, and D’Andra Kero, Ralli Therrian, Molly Bugni and Josie Connors all went 4-for-5. Connors was the winning pitcher, with five strikeouts and two walks.
Kissel Chevrolet pulled away late for a 12-3 PLLL Minor baseball win over Thrivent Financial. Erick Salo tripled in Tegan Madsen for the go-ahead run in the fourth.
