HANCOCK – Mary Toutant, 76, of Prospect Street in Hancock, died at her home on Thursday, June 12, 2014, with her loving family and friends at her side.
She was born in Hancock on December 15, 1936, to the late Francis “Bud” and Josephine (Balconi) Neher. She was a 1956 graduate of Hancock High School.
Mary was married to Paul Toutant on April 14, 1956 and they lived their entire married lives in Hancock. He preceded her in death on April 4, 2009 after nearly 53 years of marriage.
Besides being a loving wife and mother, Mary also worked for a time at the Coast-To-Coast Store in Hancock, and later was an assistant baker for the Hancock Schools lunch program until she retired.
She was a member of the Church of the Resurrection in Hancock where she served on the funeral lunch committee and was part of the prayer shawl group. She belonged to the Runeberg Lodge 8 in Dollar Bay, the St. Vincent Society in Hancock, and the Daughters of Italy. She enjoyed her flower gardening, knitting, crocheting, and dancing. She also enjoyed spending time at the family camp at Twin Lakes and her pet dogs, most recently Molly and Lola.
She is survived by her five children; Gary (Dodie) Toutant of Coburntown, Kay (Alan) Beck of Ontonagon, Debbie (Mark) Maggio of Hancock, Heather (Jeff) Chism of Petoskey, and Chris Toutant of Coburntown; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters; Peggy (Bob) Jeffrey of Milwaukee and JoAnne (Jack) Travillian of the Houghton Canal area; and by nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. on Sunday at the O’Neill-Dennis Funeral Home in Hancock, where a Rosary service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday in the Church of the Resurrection with Rev. Fr. Corbin Eddy and Rev. Fr. William Ssozi to con-celebrate. Burial will be in Hancock’s Lakeside Cemetery.
