Chassell rallies again in Over 50 play
TAPIOLA – For the second week in a row, Chassell rallied from far behind late in the game in Over 50 Softball League play.
But for the second time, the rally was for naught in an 18-13 defeat to Tapiola Thursday night.
Chassell tallied seven times in the top of the sixth for a 10-10 deadlock, only to see Tapiola score eight times on the bottom of the frame.
Andy Heikkinen went 5-for-5 to pace the 3-2 winners, winning pitcher Jed Denomie added three more raps and Steve Oger tripled among his two hits.
Chassell, now 0-5, received four hits from Steve Giddings. Daryl Putala, Steve Ross and Tino Kitalong added three apiece.
In the other game, South Range scored an 11-8 win over Houghton by scoring five times in the seventh to erase an 8-6 deficit.
The 4-1 winners were paced by two hits from Joe Rossi, Stan Murtomaki and Tom Bauer. Jaron Tollefson’s 3-run double in the final inning was the key hit. Winning pitcher Dave Kaiponen homered.
Houghton, 2-3, received three hits each from Tom LeGault and Dave Hoffman and two from Brian Turner. Steve Dunstan was the losing pitcher.
