Storm, BlueSky Health club Stanton
STANTON – BlueSky Health unloaded the heavy lumber early against Stanton Thursday night and rolled to a 13-1 Copper Country Twilight League victory.
Kyle Storm did much of the heavy lifting for BlueSky, socking a pair of homers among his three hits and driving in seven runs.
“He (Storm) pretty much did it all for them,” Stanton manager Daron Durocher said. “He had a night to remember.”
Storm got his team rolling by socking a three-run homer in the first inning.
“We had a chance to score some runs early in the game,” Durocher noted. “But we couldn’t get the big hit … and they just kept scoring.”
BlueSky came up with five runs in the top of the third inning to assume an 8-0 lead and chase Wildcats starter Brooks Olson. Storm and Scott Wesa each punched out two-run singles in the frame.
The winners pushed across five more runs in the next two innings -highlighted by a two-run circuit shot by Storm in the fifth.
Owen Kariniemi was the winning chucker, allowing just six hits.
One of those was a homer by Paul Kuoppala in the fourth inning to account for Stanton’s offense on the night.
Dave Wesa chipped in three hits for the winners, while Scott Wesa had two walks and a single to keep things stirred up offensively.
Both teams will now prepare for the annual Pastore Memorial Tournament this weekend. Toivola will be hosting the event.
