Marlene Ann (LeBlanc) Butina

SOUTH RANGE – Marlene Ann (LeBlanc) Butina lost her battle with cancer and went to be with her Savior on July 4, 2014, at the Omega House in Houghton.

Marlene was born September 21, 1941, to the late Joseph and Anna (Troher) LeBlanc. She was raised in Hubbell, and later moved with her family to Woodside Location in Dollar Bay, attending the Sacred Heart School in Calumet, and graduating from Dollar Bay High School in 1959.

She married Martin J. Butina on September 4, 1964. After losing a daughter at birth, the couple decided to adopt and became parents to Anthony Daniel and Lianna Sue.

A dedicated stay-at-home mother, Marlene returned to work when her children were older, working at Nissila’s and Special Occassions in the Copper Country Mall. She was known for hairdressing, floral arrangements and homeopathic remedies. She was a member of Holy Family Parish in South Range, where she served many years with the Altar Society. In recent years her life centered on her grandchildren, and she enjoyed attending their extracurricular activities and sporting events.

Preceding Marlene in death were her daughter, Mary; her parents, Joseph and Anna LeBlanc; her parent-in-laws, Joseph and Mary Butina; her siblings, Joseph Anthony LeBlanc, Joseph James LeBlanc, Audrey Barrette; and her siblings-in-law, George Butina, Steven Stemberger, Marvin and Mary Jones, Magdalene Butina, Joseph Butina, and Beatrice Butina; along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marlene is survived by her husband, Martin J. Butina of South Range; her son, Anthony Daniel Butina of South Range; her daughter, Lianna Sue Butina of Negaunee; and her grandchildren, Gabrielle Kyllonen, MiKayla Kyllonen, and Trevor Mickalich. Also her siblings Lawrence “Jiggs” (Jean) LeBlanc of Alden, JoAnn (James) Glinski of Fond Du Lac, and Victor “Butch” (Carol) LeBlanc of Milwaukee; her uncle, Francis LeBlanc of Livonia; her aunts, Ruth LeBlanc of Duluth, and Pauline LeBlanc of Hubbell; her siblings-in-law, Allen Barrette of Elkhart Lake, Anna Butina of White Pine, Steve Butina, Rose Stemberger, John (Ronnie) Butina all of Painesdale, and James Butina of Sterling Heights; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, special girlfriends Carole, Joanie, and Marti, and many other blessed friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at Holy Family Parish in South Range, with Fr. John Martignon as celebrant.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday in the Mountain View Mortuary in South Range, where the rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.

Visitation will continue on Wednesday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the mass.

Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Lake Linden.
