LL-H approves new contract

LAKE LINDEN – The Lake Linden-Hubbell Schools Board of Education approved a one-year contract with teachers at its meeting Monday night.
Teachers will get a 0.25 percent raise for the 2014-15 school year. Insurance caps were also raised about 2.5 percent to the state allowable amount – $5,857.58 for one person, $12,250 for two and $15,975.23 for a family.
Twenty-seven teachers are covered in the agreement.
“We’re really pleased that it happened in just two sessions with both groups,” said Superintendent Craig Sundblad. “Everybody got along really well. It was a really amicable process.”
In other action, the board:
added a freshman girls volleyball team. Sundblad said the coaching position will be posted.
renewed Brad Codere’s contract as elementary coordinator for the 2014-15 school year.
reinstated Mike Greene to a full-time teaching position.
approved placing Chris Rebman as third-grade teacher.
approved placing Kristine Daavettila as first-grade teacher.
approved the placement of Kathy Kumpula as fourth-grade teacher.
approved the placement of Lorna Beauchamp as high school special education aide.
set board salaries at $350 per person annually.
set school district depositories: Range Bank Copper Country, Superior National Bank, Michigan Liquid Asset Fund, Torch Lake Federal Credit Union, First Merit and Ameriprise Financial Services.
set bonding levels as $100,000 for district positions.
approved transporting all children within the district who live approximately 1.5 miles or more from the school, in accordance with state law.
approved sponsoring the Elementary and Secondary Education Act projects for which the district may qualify for the 2014-15 school year.
designated the superintendent’s office to perform election duties necessary for school elections.
appointed Vairo, Mechlin and Tomasi as school attorney with Thrun Law Firm as consultants.
identified Jeff Klein as electronic funds transfer coordinator.
employed Paul Sturos, CPA for the 2013-14 audit.
adopted recommended district goals for the 2014-15.
approved revised board committee assignments.
approved district memberships and liaisons to: Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals, Michigan Association of School Boards, Michigan Association of School Administrators, Michigan School Business Officials, Hospital Purchasing Service, Great Lakes Food Co-op, Michigan Association for Pupil Transportation, U.P. School Business Officials, Michigan Institute for Educational Management and the Houghton County Historical Society.
