Big first inning for Auto Value softball

HOUGHTON – Auto Value scored 14 times in the first inning and rolled to a 33-14 win over 906 Enterprises/Pilgrim River Steakhouse in Copper Country men’s slowpitch play Monday.

Five players, D.J. Coponen, Matt Kilpela, James Loukus, Alex Loukus and Shawn MacDonald, had four-hit games. Alex Loukus had a pair of doubles and James Loukus had a double and a triple. Stewart Krumm, Stew Krumm, Jr., Jake Loukus and Jared Loukus all had three hits, with all three of Jake Loukus’s being home runs. Coponen, Krumm Jr., Jared Loukus and Alex Loukus all homered.

A five-run ninth helped Pat’s Foods/Thermo Analytics rally to beat Nutini’s 25-22.

Logan Rastello and Josh Ylitalo led the way offensively: Rastello hit for the cycle and was 5-for-6 and Ylitalo had a double in a five-hit night.

Ben Steber doubled and homered in a four-hit game, Jon Hendricks, Henry Baron, Austin Riipi, Jim Larson and Charles Fraser all had three hits, with Barson, Riipi and Larson adding to the winners’ total of five homers.
