Chassell turns it around in Over 50 softball play

TAPIOLA – After losing its first six games of the season, Chassell has suddenly turned things around in Over 50 Softball League play.

Chassell’s 8-2 win over league league leading South Range Thursday night raised its record to 2-6. Range slipped to 6-2.

Dave Hoffman cracked out four hits for the victors, while Gordy Sedar added three more raps.

Jerry Jackovich, Nick Lindemann, Tino Kitalong, Kevin Tormala and winning pitcher Steve Giddings all chipped in two safeties apiece.

Glenn Mitchell and Brien Ricci picked up two hits each for Range.

In the other game, Houghton recorded a 19-7 romp over Tapiola behind four hits by Dick Franti and three more from Dave Usitalo and Tormala.

The 5-4 winners also received two hits each from six other players.

Tapiola, 3-4 so far, was led by Jim Oikarinen and losing pitcher Jed Denomie with three hits. Tom Clisch and John Onkalo had two hits each for the losers.
