Waino J. Tervo

HOWELL, Michigan – Waino J. Tervo, 87, of Howell, Michigan, passed away at home late Friday evening, July 4, 2014.

He was born in Keweenaw Bay, on September 28, 1926, he was the son of Kalle and Kaisa (Ala Simonen) Tervo. A Howell resident for the past seven years, Waino formerly resided in Beverly Hills, Florida and Plymouth, Michigan. Waino was a 1945 graduate of Baraga High School in Baraga, and earned a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Michigan Tech. He was a proud Korean War Army veteran and as a retired mechanical engineer for Ford Motor Company following 28 years of service. Beloved husband of June C. (Aittama) Tervo whom he married in Detroit on June 20, 1959; loving father of Trudy (Curt) Esch of Brighton, Tammy (Neil) Sawyer of Commerce Township and Tanya Tervo of Westland; grandfather of Emily (Dave) Hamilton, Megan (Micah Sievenpiper) Sawyer, Rebecca (Joseph Zill) Sawyer, Ryan Esch and Joshua (Marissa Magill) Sawyer; great-grandfather of Jackson and Peyton Hamilton and the late Evie Mae Esch. Also survived by his siblings, Lempi Tervo, Wesley (Helen) Tervo, Lillian (the late Edward) Wyszacki, Sylvia (Wallace) Aho, Ellen (Ted) Findlay; numerous nieces, nephews, sister and brother in-laws.

Waino was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, 312 Prospect St., Howell, MI 48843, where a memorial service honoring his life will be held Sunday, July 13, 2014 at 1 p.m.
