Stanton switches places with Toivola after home win

STANTON – Stanton passed Mosquito Inn-Toivola in the Twilight League standings and rolled to a 14-7 home victory Tuesday night.

Cole Jepsen connected for a grand slam in Stanton’s six-run second inning, part of nine straight runs the Wildcats put on the board after Toivola hung four in the top of the first. He had seven RBIs for the night.

Jepsen pitched as well, striking out three over six innings.

For Toivola, Will Williams was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Nick Bolton and Robert Brooks added two hits apiece.

Stanton (7-6) moves into third place in the league, two games behind BlueSky Health and a half-game behind Wolverine-Orbit, which was idle Tuesday. Toivola falls into fourth at 6-7.

In Dollar Bay, BlueSky Health cruised past Pat’s Foods 8-2 thanks to a complete game from pitcher Owen Kariniemi. Dan Juopperi, Ray Wojtala and Jason Koski all had three-hit nights in the win.

Lee Naugle’s two-run homer in the top of the seventh spoiled Kariniemi’s shutout and was the visitors’ only scoring.
